Sou Fujimoto (JP) | Formless Form

Sou Fujimoto (1971) set up his own firm in Tokyo in 2000, straight after graduating. He almost immediately found himself in the continuum of Japanese star architects. Stacking and inversion are recurring elements: in his serene architecture, floor, wall, ceiling, inside and outside are no longer natural boundaries. He himself suggests the comparison between nest and cave; while the nest offers the well-prepared person everything, he himself prefers the cave, a virgin space, in which people have to seek creatively for comfort.
