The design originates from the demand, the problem.
The perception of the problem, the presentation of the question,
the formulation of the problem becomes the heart of the design-process.
One should understand this on different levels :
- as a logic : problem-solving as a pattern of thinking :
- structural
- technical
- about landscape
- historiral
- artistic
- economic
- environmental
- ...
- poetic, for example in an environment without poetry
- as an input, a catalyst, an impulse :
looking for impulses is designing. Design is the processor of impulses. Impulses are processed in an authenic way.
=> at first sight non-evident solutions are coming up.
Each demand originates a sufficient amount of conditions, in the large sense of the word, to carry, feed and induce a good design.
Still the designer is not mere a syntheziser of all these disciplines, but more :
- a (film) director
- a conductor
- ...
The expression, the accents are determinated by the designer as well in the perception of the problem as in the presentation of the question as in the formulation of the problem.
=> designing in TEAM : engineers, historians, artists, economists, ecologists, specialists in soil cleansing, architects, psychologists, anthropologists, ...
The autonomy of the architect is questioned.
A large cultural background is not sufficient.
=> de “homo universalis”, Leonardo is xplod’d.
