1st Place: John Fraser, Untitled, Birmingham, Great Britain, April 2016

If the winner is any indication, the jury was drawn to photos illustrating contrast, particularly in regards to context (the fifth-place winner echoes this approach). In the case of John Fraser's untitled first-place winner, a reflective swoosh (a Gehry?) cuts across the historic context of low-scale brick buildings in Birmingham. As Az W wrote on their Facebook page, "The photo illustrates the transformation of an industrial town into a service industries city and opens up room for different interpretations. What do we see here? And, above all, where are we here?"

All of the winners are on display until 8 November 2016 at Architekturzentrum Wien's Az W Shop, while the first place winner, John Fraser, receives an Eames Plastic Chair by Vitra.
