The Blue Residence is a part of an ensemble forming one: the renovation and extension of the Castle de Motte, onto which it is attached by a connecting bridge. Each part addresses the complexity of dealing with heritage and the historical context by the interweaving with contemporary yet timeless architecture.

Close to the earth, attached to a walled orchard, the light pavilion emerges as an a counterweight to the mass of the castle’s extension. The wide landscape gets an antagonist in the small scale garden.

The overlapping symmetries of the structure gives stability to the pavilion while abstracting its readability at the same time, merging it with the garden. Symmetry is here used as a cultural reference in order to connect with the user, the central point always shifting as you move through the structure. When opened, the large windows work as windscreens on a faded border between pavilion and garden. The vegetation gradually overtakes the steel structure and blurs the boundary between the grey blue steel structure and the air, becoming one with the place.
