This is a project for an Art collector who’s wish it was to respect the Neo-Tudor style of the existing house, but at the same time open it up to the garden and create spaces friendly to art. Our solution came in the form of a glass passage and pavilion extention. The glass is not only a transparent separation, but it is structurely applied to support the roof. The techinical refinement of the glass detailing result in a light architecture, in contrast to the monolithic English style. The glass passage twists leavingthe house on the way to the pavilion. The pavilion, stipulated by four bluestone pillars and enclosed by glass, behaves like a peninsula within the design. Here interior and exterior amalgamate. In the cottage excisions are made by slicing and cutting. Architecture is stripped of architecture. These vacua intensify what is built and are significative. Architecture which exists in what it omits. The glass passage creates dialogue by reflecting the Neo-Tudor architecture just before dissolving in its surroundings.
