In the coastal town of Labuan Bajo on the Indonesian island of Flores, the Ta’aktana Resort, part of the Luxury Collection of Marriott Bonvoy, receives its guests as the first international luxury hotel in the region. Embedded in an impressive landscape, the resort combines contemporary comfort with the culture of the Manggarai.
The name "Ta’aktana" itself means "green land" in the Manggarai language, and represents the history of the tropical agriculture and livestock farming. By using particular materials, shapes and a certain space planning, the design has transformed the essence of the Manggarai into various motifs, which serve as a source of stories for the guests. Natural stone walls with Sanskrit reliefs are a guide through the lobby to the viewing terrace. In the event rooms, leather coverings and textured wood hark back to the caci dance. The typical circular structure of the rice terraces is also reflected in the resort – from the roofs to the details at breakfast. The architecture itself remains discrete here even to the narrator, but can still be clearly read. Seven villas built on stilts extend over the sea. From four of them, you have an open view to the horizon and experience Labuan Bajo as the "city of a thousand sunsets". The technical equipment follows the differentiated room concept: KNX is used in public zones, while in private areas, classic controls are sufficient. The switches in the LS 990 range in dark aluminium and matt graphite black integrate unobtrusively, but specifically chosen, into the material-rich environment. This design approach characterises the rooms and the technology in equal measure – unobtrusive but still effective.
