Preserved Robustness
A new door next to the large gate provides visitors with easy access to the inner courtyard and the front entrance. This path creates a gentle, gradual transition from the public to the private sphere. The design of this secondary entrance is refined: daylight highlights the brick wall under the covered passage, while the wooden door and gate reference the original timber beams of the farmhouse, which were preserved as much as possible to maintain its robust character.
Framed Inner Courtyard
The original small windows were also retained as a tribute to the historical architecture. This is more than compensated for by the nearly fully glazed rear façade of the extension and the glass wall facing the courtyard. The long glazed side wall runs from the front entrance to the dining area, crafted in wood. The depth and rhythm of the mullions prevent a direct view through the façade when seen at an angle, while a frontal view offers a framed perspective of the inner courtyard.
Large windows in the rear façade provide unobstructed views of the surrounding meadows. On the upper floor, a green roof over the covered terrace complements the natural landscape.
Occasionally placed circular roof openings channel daylight down to the night landing, emphasizing the height of the farmhouse and creating natural spotlights on the timber beams.
Stylized Natural Stone
The rear extension of the farmhouse, housing the living area and home office, is finished in natural stone. The stylized volume subtly signals it as a new addition while remaining respectful to the existing brick architecture. Wooden joinery serves as a consistent thread connecting old and new, though here it is designed differently than in the glass wall of the courtyard, reaching all the way to the corners of the façades.
The natural stone also defines the terrace. The corners remain uncut, enhancing the sense of openness toward the landscape. The terrace shapes the footprint of the extension in the outdoor space. The office area enjoys its own framed terrace, partially covered with a perforated roof, offering two completely distinct experiences.
Showcasing Cars
The barn on the left side of the farmhouse has been opened with a glass wall, serving as storage for the client’s car collection. From the kitchen, one can view the collection across the courtyard, and the fitness area in the extension also provides clear sightlines to the vehicles.

Robuustheid bewaard
Een nieuwe deur naast de grote poort biedt bezoekers een gemakkelijke toegang tot de binnenkoer en de voordeur. Dat pad zorgt voor een zachte, geleidelijke overgang van de publieke naar de private sfeer. De uitwerking van deze secundaire toegang is verfijnd: daglicht accentueert de bakstenen wand onder de overdekte doorgang, de houten deur en poort verwijzen naar de houten spanten in de hoeve. Die bleven maximaal bewaard om de robuuste uitstraling intact te houden.
Gekadreerde binnenkoer
Ook de originele, kleine ramen bleven behouden als getuige aan de architectuur van weleer. De nagenoeg volledig beglaasde achtergevel van de uitbouw en de glazen wand aan de binnenkoer compenseren dit ruimschoots. De lange glazen zijwand loopt vanaf de voordeur tot aan de eetruimte. Het schrijnwerk is in hout uitgevoerd. De diepte en de ritmiek van de stijlen maken dat je bij scheerlings kijken niet door de gevel kunt kijken. Kijk je frontaal door het raam, dan krijg je een gekadreerde beleving van de binnenkoer.
De grote ramen in de achtergevel geven een ongehinderd uitzicht op de achterliggende weilanden. Op de verdieping begeleidt een groendak op het overdekt terras het natuurlijke uitzicht.
Sporadisch geplaatste ronde dakopeningen brengen gebundeld daglicht tot op de nachtoverloop. Ze accentueren de hoogte van het hoevegebouw en zetten natuurlijke spots op de houten spanten.
Gestyleerde natuursteen
De uitbreiding aan de achterzijde van de hoeve met daarin de zitruimte en het thuiskantoor zijn in natuursteen uitgewerkt. Het gestyleerde volume verstopt zo niet dat het om een nieuwe toevoeging gaat. Tegelijkertijd is de materiaalkeuze respectvol voor de bestaande baksteenarchitectuur. Het houten schrijnwerk is een consequente rode draad tussen oud en nieuw. Het schrijnwerk is hier wel anders vorm gegeven dan in de glaswand aan de binnenkoer. Ze reiken tot op de hoeken van de gevels.
De natuursteen geeft ook het terras vorm. De hoeken zijn daarbij niet afgesneden, wat de openheid naar het landschap versterkt. Het terras definieert het grondplan van de nieuwbouw ook in de buitenomgeving. De bureauruimte krijgt een eigen gekadreerd terras waarvan het dak deels is geperforeerd. Het terras krijgt zo twee volledig verschillende belevingen.
Auto’s kijken
De schuur aan de linkerzijde van de hoeve is opengewerkt met een glazen wand. Ze fungeert als stallingsruimte voor de wagencollectie van de opdrachtgever. Vanuit de keuken is er over de binnenkoer zicht op deze collectie. Ook vanuit de fitnessruimte in het gebouwdeel is er zicht op de wagens.
