Kultur Campus
SYMBIOTIC CITY – A NEW URBAN LANDMARK CONNECTING CULTURE, COMMERCE AND COMMUNITY
With the Kultur Campus Wiesbaden, a forward-looking urban ensemble is emerging that redefines the relationship between culture, economy, and public life. Located along one of Wiesbaden’s main arterial roads, the municipal site currently occupied by outdated commercial structures sits directly adjacent to the Schlachthof – one of Germany’s most renowned institutions for youth and music culture. Building on the city’s vision to expand the Schlachthof area into a larger Cultural Park, 3DELUXE — commissioned by the REWE Group and working closely with the Cultural Campus Initiative and the city’s development agency SEG — has designed a concept that unites culture and economy in an integrated, future-oriented mix of uses.
A HYBRID URBAN ENSEMBLE
The urban concept envisions a hybrid architectural ensemble with distinct design languages and a diverse programmatic structure. Facing Mainzer Straße, a striking office tower expresses a contemporary, sustainable architectural identity — a visible symbol of CO₂-reduced construction and the city’s innovative spirit. Featuring hybrid timber construction, local energy generation, green façades, and rooftop gardens, the building will house modern loft-style offices, a hotel, and a Hip-Hop museum at street level. To the rear, the cultural buildings draw inspiration from the aesthetics of industrial architecture – raw, flexible, and open to creative appropriation. Their reduced design language offers space for artistic experimentation and adaptive use. Planned facilities include a skate hall, a multifunctional event venue for concerts, workshops, and club nights, as well as rehearsal rooms, artist studios, a rooftop bar, an art gallery and public outdoor spaces for cultural activities. A large-scale retail zone on the ground floor connects the different building volumes, while an elevated urban plaza above forms the vibrant heart of the campus — a public stage for art, music and social encounters. The result is a dynamic urban fabric that interweaves culture, creativity, work, commerce, and leisure — an open, inclusive place that injects new energy into the city’s cultural and social life. Beyond its diverse program, the Cultural Campus Wiesbaden stands as an architectural statement: A new contemporary landmark at the city’s gateway — a symbol of openness, vitality, and forward-thinking urban development.
