Hotel Indigo Kuala Lumpur
The "Hotel Indigo Kuala Lumpur on the Park" lies on the edge of the Bukit Nanas Forest Reserve, one of the last remaining rainforest areas in the centre of Kuala Lumpur. The proximity to nature shapes the concept of the London studio, G.A. Group: the building opens out to the city, but at the same time references the rural surroundings.
The interior spaces were designed taking account of the cultural variety of Malaysia. Furniture, surfaces and details reflect typical motifs and materials of the region without feeling too decorative. The lobby, whose reception counter is made of weathered burl wood, is laid out as a generous entrance area with a planted wall module. Recycled materials such as glass surfaces and old metal have been consciously used. Even the main stairs was made from old railway sleepers. The combination of raw material and careful preparation extends through all the public areas. On the roof, an open relaxation area has been constructed with a pool. A geometrically designed metal structure filters the light. Planted areas, sunken plant troughs and natural materials complement the concept, with the design following a clear system without seeming artificial.
The guest rooms are planned functionally and kept in warm tones. Rattan, dark wood and textile elements give structure to the room. Individual design elements, such as traditional play objects or a typical standard piece of furniture, create a link to the local home decor. The atmosphere remains calm and concentrated. The technology was also inconspicuously integrated. Fitting to the material selection, the LS 990 range in dark aluminium lacquered was used. Beside the beds and at the desks there are universal sockets with USB-C ports. The lighting can be controlled with the KNX F-50 push-buttons.
