The sculpture depot complements the depot building for the Prussian Palaces and Gardens Foundation's art collection, built-in 2018 as the first construction phase near Potsdam Main Station. Both depot buildings are associated with the Foundation's Science and Restoration Center, completed a year earlier on the edge of Sanssouci Palace Park. The sculpture depot continues the long depot building with its striking gabled front. In keeping with the simplicity and serial appearance of the adjacent commercial buildings, the brick façade of the depot is rhythmed only by narrow smoke extraction panels. Its entrance façade, in the joint to the existing depot, is accented by a band of vertical metal panels. Due to the high payloads, the building was designed as a solid reinforced concrete structure. The mass of the building, which is oriented to the passive house standard, makes it possible to ensure a stable temperature and humidity level with greatly reduced plant technology and with minimized energy and maintenance requirements.
