Arab Cultural Society Campus

Amman, Jordan

The RAS and Arab Culture Society (ACS) campus project in Amman integrates two existing buildings—the RAS School Building and the four-story ZAD Building, which accommodates art and music programs—through the introduction of a new infill structure that connects the campus both spatially and programmatically.

The intervention follows a dual strategy of transforming the existing architecture while introducing a unifying addition. The RAS building is rearticulated with a vertical wooden louver façade that overlays the existing stone surfaces, adding depth and solar shading while redefining the building’s architectural expression.

A new building is inserted between the RAS and ZAD structures, functioning as a mediator that links the campus internally. Its stone façade, articulated with vertical striations, establishes continuity with local material traditions while maintaining a contemporary architectural language. The building is oriented to frame views toward the central courtyard and the surrounding city.

The project also includes an extension above the ZAD building and the introduction of rooftop spaces, including a multipurpose hall and playground. Internally, a multi-level atrium replaces the former external stairs, creating a central circulation space that connects all floors and introduces natural light into the interior.

Organized around a central courtyard, the campus establishes a sequence of indoor and outdoor spaces that support circulation, interaction, and environmental moderation. The total proposed new building area is approximately 3,000 sqm, with an additional 2,000 sqm extension to Block B.
